The Fellowship

Three days of work on how culture moves across the Mediterranean.

The Mediterranea Publishing Fellowship is structured around a three-day intensive nucleus held each September in Cagliari, complemented by a satellite programme distributed across the year.

Format

The Intensive Nucleus

Three days in September. Each day operates at a different scale, narrowing from the general to the specific.

Day One

The Academic Framework

The programme opens by establishing the intellectual coordinates. A question about Mediterranean cultural production — its structures, tensions, and possibilities — is posed through academic presentations and moderated discussion. This is the framework that shapes everything that follows.

Day Two

The Focus Country

Each edition selects a national publishing context from the Mediterranean basin as its lens. The second day examines this country's editorial landscape: its institutions, market dynamics, translation flows, and the specific conditions under which publishers operate there.

Day Three

The Fellows

The question lands with the fellows. Read through the specificity of their own editorial contexts — their catalogues, their markets, their constraints — the framework built over the previous two days becomes concrete.

Beyond September

The Satellite Programme

The fellowship extends beyond its intensive nucleus through events distributed across the year. These satellite events are linked to the edition's focus country and serve to deepen the questions raised during the three-day programme.

Satellite events take various forms — public lectures, editorial workshops, book presentations, conversations with publishers from the focus country — and are held in Cagliari and occasionally in other Mediterranean cities.
